Berkeley Classes

Ongoing East Bay Classes:

at the East Bay Jewish Community Center:
1414 Walnut Street, Berkeley CA
Room 7

Thursdays 12-1pm

BE HEARD! Voice for Parkinson’s meets on Thursdays at 12pm. Using relaxation, exercise, games, muscle training, and music, we’ll explore the importance of maintaining the right to speak up and be heard. From core strength to diction, volume to facial expression, communication exists within the whole body. In this practice, you’ll develop real-world tools you can bring outside the classroom, benefiting your everyday life, and maybe even find some joy along the way.

Tuesdays 1:30-2:30pm

Applying the BE HEARD! Skills Discussion Group meets on Tuesdays at 1:30pm. This group uses the tools learned in BE HEARD! Voice for Parkinson’s on Thursdays, and participants may be asked to attend the Thursday class so as to learn those skills. Groups begin with conversation warmups led by KT Warren and Ed Silberman, followed by each student telling personal stories on a common theme (for example, you might be asked to tell of a job you held, a place you traveled, or someone important to you). Speakers will be coached by KT for volume, speech clarity, and vocal color. You’ll practice real conversational skills, in community. Put your BE HEARD! knowledge to work and build your community in conversation!
